Editor - Kyiv
The European Policy Institute in Kyiv (EPIK), established by the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) through SCEEUS, will serve as a hub for innovative policy thinking on Ukraine’s security, resilience, and EU accession. EPIK provides independent, high‑quality analysis for policymakers, partners, media and the public.
UI, founded in 1938, is Sweden’s leading centre for research and information on foreign and security policy, with more than 70 employees and two national knowledge centres.
We are now recruiting an Editor who will play a central role in shaping EPIK’s analytical voice and ensuring consistent excellence across all editorial output.
About the role
As Editor, you will define and oversee EPIK’s editorial vision, standards and content strategy across all publications and platforms. You will ensure that analytical and public‑facing products are accurate, compelling and aligned with EPIK’s mission and strategic priorities. The role combines editorial leadership with hands‑on copy‑editing and close collaboration with EPIK’s leadership and policy fellows.
This is a unique opportunity to help build a high‑impact policy institute from the ground up and contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s voice in European and global policy debates.
Key responsibilities
Editorial leadership & content development
Develop ideas for policy briefs, commentaries and analytical products with policy fellows and EPIK leadership.
Shape and articulate EPIK’s expert voice across platforms.
Copy-edit all written output, ensuring accuracy, clarity, coherence and strong argumentation.
Contribute to new editorial formats and analytical products.
Editorial strategy & policy
Develop and maintain EPIK’s editorial policy, including tone, formats and ethical standards.
Provide editorial input to EPIK’s wider communications strategy.
Ensure alignment between research agenda, editorial output and external communications.
Publishing & production
Coordinate a consistent publishing schedule and planning cycles.
Lead regular editorial meetings to discuss ideas and set priorities.
Oversee production of EPIK’s monthly podcast.
Product innovation & promotion
Explore new formats for conveying policy ideas including through storytelling and feature formats.
Work with communications colleagues to promote and disseminate EPIK’s content.
Contribute to audience development, visibility and impact.
Capacity building & external outreach
Support policy fellows in strengthening their public‑facing writing and messaging.
Ensure editorial products are accessible, relevant and engaging for policymakers and other stakeholders.
What we are looking for
Strong editorial judgment and experience with policy, research, or analytical content.
Ability to combine strategic editorial planning with hands‑on editing.
Excellent command of English and proven copy-editing experience.
Creativity, curiosity, and understanding of how ideas travel across platforms.
Experience working with senior experts in intellectually demanding environments.
Requirements
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
Professional experience as an editor or journalist.
Experience working in a policy think tank or similar environment, with understanding of policy processes.

Native English.
Ukrainian fluency highly desirable.
Additional European languages are an asset.
Position details
The position is based in Kyiv and reports to the Director. The role is offered as a full‑time annual position, with the possibility of extension.
Preferred start date: As soon as possible.
