Work with the issues that change the world
We invite you to explore career opportunities at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs.
Contribute to knowledge, discussion and debate on international affairs
The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) is an independent, non-profit organization with extensive experience in monitoring and analyzing international affairs.
With broad and in-depth expertise on both individual countries and global developments, we are committed to providing a nuanced and well-informed perspective on a complex and evolving world.
The interplay between research, analysis, and public outreach is a cornerstone of our work. Housing these three areas under one roof fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange across disciplines and functional roles.
Today, UI has a staff of over 70 individuals representing a wide range of backgrounds and competencies. Alongside our researchers and analysts, the team includes journalists as well as experts in communications, grant administration, and human resources.

Our office
The office is located in the historic Admiralty House on Skeppsholmen - in the heart of central Stockholm. The location is easily accessible: just a 10-minute walk from Kungsträdgården, a short bus ride from the central station, or by ferry from Slussen.
The Admiralty House was built in 1650 as the headquarters for the Swedish Navy’s command, the Admiralty Board. The building is currently managed by the National Property Board. After serving various roles—including as the National Archives and a grain storage facility—the interior was renovated in 1997 and has since been used as office space.
Skeppsholmen and the adjacent Kastellholmen are part of the Royal National City Park, an area known for its rich cultural and natural heritage. Nature, culture, and architecture come together in a distinctive setting. Our neighbors include Moderna Museet, the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, the Royal Institute of Art, and several other cultural and creative institutions.

Our history
UI was founded in 1938 to strengthen knowledge and research on international politics during a time of global uncertainty. The idea of an independent Swedish institute had emerged during the 1930s, with the ambition of giving Sweden a stronger voice in foreign policy matters. Today, UI has evolved into a modern platform for research, analysis, and public outreach. More than 85 years after its founding, we continue to provide policymakers and the public with insights into our increasingly complex world.
